'The Lost Theorem', a short piece that appeared in The Mathematical Intelligencer in 1997, brings to light an unsuspected correlation between 3×3 magic squares and parallelograms. That is, any parallelogram drawn on the plane (Argand diagram) is found to define a unique 3×3 magic square, just as every 3×3 magic square defines a unique parallelogram situated somewhere on the plane. The essay can be found here.
